Discover the important points to pay attention to.
The first and mandatory step to move a domain name to a different registrar is to disable the transfer lock that is active with your current provider. This feature is left on by default by registrars to prevent the unauthorized transfer of domain names by malicious actors. However, this security measure prevents the domain name from being transferred to another registrar, even by you.
The transfer lock is usually indicated in the domain management panel with phrases like “Domain Lock”, “Transfer Lock” or “Registrar Lock”. When you turn the lock off, the system usually goes to “Unlocked” and the domain name is now technically transferable.
This can be done in seconds, but the transfer application must be started immediately after the lock is removed. Otherwise, your domain name may be automatically locked again or manually re-protected by the current provider. It should be noted that all transfer applications submitted without the transfer lock being removed will be automatically rejected by the system. For this reason, it is very important to do this process correctly and completely in the first step for the whole process to proceed in a healthy way.
Failure to do so in a timely manner may result in an automatic rejection of your transfer request or prolong the process.
In order to securely transfer your domain name to another registrar, you must have an EPP (or Auth) code, which is the authorization key. This code is an encrypted transfer approval mechanism that is unique to the legal owner of the domain name.
Registrars only provide this code to the domain owner or authorized user. To obtain the code, you can log in to your existing domain administration panel or contact your registrar's support department.
You need to enter this code into your new registrar's system during the transfer application. Once the system verifies the EPP code, the transfer process is officially started. If you enter an incomplete, incorrect or expired code, the application will be invalid.
Once the EPP code is entered, the transfer process is usually completed within 3 to 7 business days. During this time, you can speed up the process by clicking on the confirmation link sent to your registered e-mail address or you can wait for the system's automatic confirmation process. The confidentiality of this code is very important. You should only use the EPP code on trusted platforms, do not share it with other people and ensure its digital security. Transacting only with operators you trust is vital to the security of your domain name. A confirmation link may be sent by email during this period, and should be followed carefully.
According to rules mandated by ICANN, the international domain management organization, newly registered domains or domains that have not yet completed 60 days after being transferred to another company cannot be transferred again.
This 60-day waiting period is in place to prevent domain spoofing, fraud and unauthorized interference, and cannot be extended or removed by any registrar.
If you have just registered your domain name or have just transferred it from another provider, the system will automatically reject the transfer application. In this case, the user is not entitled to any action and the process is just a waste of time.
The registration date and last transfer history of the domain name must be checked before the transfer request. If your domain name falls under this rule, you may see a “transfer not eligible” warning on the system or your application may be terminated without any action.
At the end of the 60-day period, transfer operations are reactivated and the normal process can be started. Especially for users who manage a large number of domains, taking this rule into consideration is critical for the healthy progress of planning. This rule should therefore be taken into account before requesting a transfer.
Move your domain safely and easily.
